In this untitled work, Pilar García Sanz lays bare a figure caught in the tension between presence and dismemberment. The body, elongated and fragmented, lies reclined—stripped of skin, dissected into brushstrokes, yet disturbingly human. Bone, muscle and limb are rendered with surgical coldness and painterly vulnerability, suggesting a broken puppet, a martyr, or perhaps a body in transition.
Executed in oil on tablex, the surface absorbs the viewer into its heavy, matte finish. The palette—dominated by pale flesh, greys, and muted earths—adds to the spectral aura, while the stark black void above emphasizes the isolation of the form.
García Sanz’s work often circles themes of fragility, psychological fragmentation, and the violence inherent in transformation. Here, those motifs coalesce in a composition that is both anatomical and emotional—detached yet intimate. Echoes of Egon Schiele or post-war figuration can be felt, but filtered through the artist’s own internal terrain.
A raw and uncompromising piece, this painting expands Pilar García Sanz’s exploration of the human condition, where the act of representation becomes a ritual of dissection and exposure.
